Pepe requested that his body be buried next to Manuela’s body. Manuela was his beloved pet, he had been with him for many years and in June 2018 he passed away.

The former president of Uruguay, Pepe Mujica, publicly stated that he hoped to place his body next to that of one of his favorite pets, Manuela, who died in June 2018 after turning 22 years old. His body lies in the rural farm where Pepe lives with Lucía.

Interview with Pepe about Manuela

In an interview, Mujica spoke about different topics related to international political events and also asked him personal questions. At one point, they asked him about Manuela.

“How is your dog Manuela (one of your favorite pets)? How is Doña Manuela?”, Asked the reporter. “She’s dead,” replied Pepe. “She lived for 22 years. This is a record for being a dog. She was buried under a redwood.”

“The day I die, I want them cremated and put my ashes under the tree next to Manuela,” Mujica revealed.

The former president of Uruguay concluded: “The more I know about people, the more I admire dogs.”

Manuela lost part of her leg in an accident with a tractor driven by Pepe himself many years ago. The dog was known to be with him during his tenure as president of Uruguay from 2010 to 2015.
